The Windsteppers is the youth track team at Second Missionary Baptist Church. They have participated in the A.A.U. Track and Field National Junior Olympics for over 30 years. Coaches are members of the church and community who volunteer their time and talent to pour into area youth. Windstepper alumni have earned scholarships to many universities around the country because of the foundation they received while in the program.
Our History
Second Missionary Baptist Church Windsteppers Track Team was formed 1989 under the direction of Kimberly Waller. The late Pastor Donald D. Ford II, served as head of the church. Kimberly served as Head Coach and Commissioner until 1995 and was assisted by the following coaches: Berkley Pernell, John Edwards, Walt Canady, Kim Ward, Duwayne Ford, and Ken Waller. From 1996 to 2000 Duwayne Ford assumed the Head Coach and Commissioner position with phenomenal success. In 2001 Rev. Cornelius M. Blow assumed the Head Coach and Commissioner position and continued the rich and prosperous Windsteppers Tradition.
33 YEARS LATER...
The team is currently in the 33rd year of existence. In 2020, Deacon Johnathon Forbush accepted the position as Head Coach and has plans for the Windsteppers to dominate the track this season.
